Dr. Aderson Araujo is Director of Haematology of the Fundação Hemope, a State of Pernambuco – Brazil unit, specialized in general haematlogy and oncohaematology. Hemope is a mixed institution with a Haematology Hospital and a Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit connected to a blood bank. It belongs to the National Health System Network (SUS) and supported by the Pernambuco State government. Sickle cell disease and other haemoglobinopaties are principal diseases of the Haematology Hospital
Dr. Aderson Araujo is a clinician, haematologist, ans a scientis working on haemoglobinopathies for more than 30 years and is one of the Brazilian representatives of the Global Sickle Cell Disease Network (GSCDN). He also belongs to the board of scientific counselors of the Brazilian Association of Thalassaesmia (ABRASTA).
Dr. Aderson Araújo is a project investigator of the Haemoglobinopathies Laboratory of the Fundação Hemope and looks after around 1,300 SCD patients in weekly clinics. He belongs to the State of Pernambuco’ SCD Committee and is responsible for training Medical Doctors in haemoglobinopathies.
He is a medical graduate of the Medical School of the Federal University of Pernambuco and PhD graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirao Preto – University of Sao Paulo – Brazil. He undertook specialty training haematology in the UK, at the Whittington Hospital, University College of London
